TH Goes Cross Country, Serving Time Music Vid, Blabbermouth, Wounbed Warriors and more….

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Tyronehood successfully drove from Seattle all the way to Tampa on a quest to return Nole’Core home to his native Florida after he finished his Masters degree at the University of Washington. Along the way, Nole, Power Metal and MattTheMicrowave made stops in several cities, including Portland, Boise, Salt Lake City, Laramie, Denver, Boulder, the dump in Kansas, Dallas, New Orleans, Pensacola, Fort Walton Beach, Tallahassee, and finally the TH Capitol City, Tampa. While on the road, and passing through some pretty barren terrain, the trio filmed footage to use in a video set to Eyehategod’s Serving Time in the Middle of Nowhere. The shooting began back in Seattle in the now famous concrete slab used in Southern Discomfort, and the rest was shot on the road in Wyoming and in a scrap heap literally in the middle of nowhere in Kansas. Editing will begin next week.

Of course we have to mention the visits to Vinnie Pauls strip club in Dallas, the Clubhouse, a visit to Dimes grave to share a few beers, and rattle snake fajitas at Campo Verde, a Mexican restaurant frequented back in the day by Dime and Vinnie. Next night had us eating Italian food at Anselmo’s in Metairie and catching Anders Osbourne at Le Bon Temps Roule in New Orleans, a bar owned by Pepper Keenan. TH members DownInNola and Spawn caught up with us there and even Jimmy Bower was in the house for the show.

Once back in Florida it was a stop off at Woodham High School to share some Nole memories, then dinner at his moms house in Fort Walton Beach. The tour continued in Tallahassee walking around Doak Cambell at Florida State, and a stop in Gainesville to flip off the hated Gator mascot. FINALLY we arrived in Tampa, picked up a letter left for us by Jonny, and hung out with BANE and Holmes in Ybor City until it was time to take Power Metal to the airport. Over 4,000 miles, barely any sleep, a ton of alcohol, and a million memories.

TH Thesis

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Thesis :

One of the many qualities that make up human behavior is our desire to communicate and work with others.  In this digital age, it has become common for those lacking social skills to accomplish these desires to turn to online message board communities to interact with others.  However, not all of these message boards are set up as havens for the socially inept.  Could the true power and potential of community lie within social networks geared towards people with both offline and online social skills?

Statement:

Men exist for the sake of one another. Teach them then or bear with them.
– Marcus Aurelius Antoninus

I intend to look at a specific on line community and show how its members have used their various talents to create a vast and powerful network, despite at first only having their message board as means to communicate with one another.  As time went on and it became apparent which members possessed adequate social skills, this translated into projects and meet ups facilitated by offline interaction.  The ones who neither had this quality or simply weren’t interested in that type of social interaction eventually were pruned from the ranks.  This left a fellowship of like minded individuals who would not let the constraints of a computer screen hinder goals that in the past would only be possible with face to face interaction.  This is the digital age’s e-firm.  There are no physical offices, which is perfect when work needs to be done in Seattle one day, and in Houston or Barcelona the next.

This project will show the way humans need for community are being met with today’s technology, and the pros and cons of accomplishing them using this technology. Finally, it will show the boons of creating a community that makes the best of both the on and offline world.  Social networking does not have to be strictly digital, it is the hybrid version that will accomplish the most in today’s age.
