San Jose Sharks heat up Stockholm for the NHL Premier Event

The NHL kicked off its 2010-2011 season in Stockholm, Sweden at Ericsson Globe with the San Jose Sharks taking on the Columbus Blue Jackets for a 2 game series. The Sharks won game one but fell in OT 3-2 in game 2. The crowds were electric and very into the games, you could tell the Swedes were very excited to have the NHL in their country again. The crowds were dominated with Sharks gear, with the always solid Western Division team featuring Swedish Olympic team member Douglas Murray helping the Sharks rooting cause. The Sharks got the scoring started in game 2 with a shot by Devon Setoguchi, followed by an equalizing goal in the 3rd by Joe Thornton, who also had scored in game 1. With that recap done, let me add some thoughts and comments about what I saw that night. From a game perspective…why the FUCK did we start Niittymaki?? That second goal was god damn awful. Niemi looked great the last 2 periods the previous night, I have no idea why we didn’t start him. Season just started, no reason to be tired yet. I know it was the second game of the year but damn did our line changes look sloppy. This was the first time I have ever seen the Sharks lose in person, and I hope it never happens again. What a let down losing in OT like that.
