FSU comes roaring back, tells BYU to holy roll that shit out of here

FSUWhile it did not start with a bang like last years 26 point thrashing of BYU in Provo, FSU put forth a great defensive effort this past Saturday in Tallahassee, coming away with a 24 point victory over the Cougars. With the 34-10 win, FSU is now 4-0 all time against BYU. This time the ‘Noles smothered the Cougars, holding them to 191 yards, sacking the QBs 8 times and forcing 2 turnovers, a far cry from last weeks disaster at Oklahoma. This was the defensive effort missing all of last year and hopefully is a sign of things to come. Christian Ponder also rebounded from the worst game of his career, throwing for 149 yards and a score with 50 yards rushing and another TD. He was helped by a good running game that racked up 278 yards on the ground.

While on the field the ‘Noles left no doubt who was the better team, off the field there was not without controversy. For the second straight year BYU fans were harassed by the FSU students in attendance, prompting a letter to be written by FSU starting QB, Christian Ponder:

Re: Sportsmanship at FSU Games

I, like many of you, grew up being a Florida State fan and the son of proud FSU Alumni. I have the privilege now of representing Florida State on the football field and that is something I take very seriously. I know you probably hear from your parents like I do from mine about how Seminole fans in the past had a well earned reputation for treating the visiting teams and more importantly their fans with respect and sportsmanship. I’m not sure that is always the case anymore.

Don’t get me wrong, we all want Doak Campbell rocking for home games and the louder the cheering the better, but let’s do it with class. Let’s show respect for the visiting team and fans.

This is a team sport and you are an important part of that team. Let’s work together to make this the best place in the nation to watch a game.

Go Noles!

I agree the fans need to show some restraint and  make the stadium a hostile environment for the opposing team, not its fans. But I will say that over the years, BYU’s players have acted like such raging douchebags during games that they probably brought this on their school themselves. Standing over Sam Bradford after he gets blasted into the turf or flexing and roaring after routine tackles is a good way to have the rest of the country hate your guts. This is a school with a ton of football history, not some flavor of the month trash like Boise State, so cut the antics.
